Beach Bums

Well it's been a rough week. . .we wake up about 10, cross the street to the beach, swim in the Gulf of Thailand (feels like getting into a bath), head in for some fresh fruit and a beer every few hours, get back in the water, then shower and eat dinner at a restaurant on the beach. Life's tough here. . .

Funny thing is, no one mentioned to us that Ko Samet is the honeymoon paradise of the world. So J and I have been getting quite a few glances in our direction when we sit down under the moonlight for our romantic candlelit dinners for two. Luckily we ran into a group of other teachers that we met in Bangkok so we were able to avoid the romance scene last night.

We're also enjoying what we like to call our "honeymoon suite" which is the exact opposite of our honeymoon vacation we've been enjoying. The first few nights were great. . .king size bed, air conditioner, tv with cable, fridge, shower, fresh sheets. But due to a miscommunication with the owner, he booked it for someone else for the weekend thinking we were leaving Friday morning.

After being shut down by just about every other place on the island, we settled on our current suite. . .I almost cried going to bed last night. . .we've got our mattress that's on the floor, in our closet of a room, that has a toilet we're too terrified to use because the bathroom (if that's what you want to call it. . .it's a toilet with a door in front of it) is covered in spiders and who knows what else. We went to a resort down the road and paid 30 baht (about $1) to use their public showers before making the dreaded walk back to our place last night...where J and I carefully laid our beach towels down over the mattress, then laid ourselves on top of the towels, not even wanting to go near the stained blankets they provided us. I eventually put my ipod in to drown out the humming of our fan (that's right, no AC in the 110 degree weather) that just about vibrated our walls to the ground. I'm not sure if I actually fell asleep the whole night. . . J and I kept fidgeting around thinking we had some spider or gecko or someTHING crawling all over us. And I kept peeking over at the door anytime I heard someone in the hallway. I'm sure we were safe but I've seen way to many scary movies for that stuff. . .and we definitely used J's huge bag to block the door. And the best part is. . .since it's the weekend, this place is about 200 baht more than what we were paying at the other place.

Needless to say, we headed straight for the beach the second we woke up this morning and have been here all day. . .fearing the time when the sun goes down and we have to make the terrifying walk back to our bungalow. . .I can't complain looking at this scenery all day though! It's pretty freaking gorgeous.

Anyway, we have one more night in our hell hole and then we're headed back to Bangkok for another couple nights!

Miss ya and love ya!
